Msuwadzi Association is a group of 330 smallholder tea farmers in the Thyolo North area who sell to nearby commercial Tea Estates, Conforzi and Satemwa. Msuwadzi underwent their first Fair-trade certification audit in July 2009, the outcome of which was successful with no major non-compliances. To date, the Fairtrade Premium that has been generated has been invested in establihsing a tea seedling nursery. Seedlings will be sold to Msuwadzi Association members for in-filling of their tea fields at subsidised prices, to generate a small income for maintenance of the nursery. Other community Healthcare and education projects have been identified and will be addressed as soon as sufficient Fairtrade Premium is generated.
