White Elephant – A Celebration From The Soul – was established in 1999 to manage an exclusive hospitality and eco-tourism enterprise in the Pongola Game Reserve.
Although its two lodges, Safari Lodge and Bush Camp, are located in the first proclaimed game reserve in Africa (1894), it was only in the late 1980's that landowners, together with KZN Wildlife, Swaziland and neighbouring communities initiated a partnership to develop the Phongolo/Nsubane Transfrontier Conservation Area (Peace Park) that includes the Lebombo Mountains, Lake Jozini (Pongolapoort dam) and surrounding land as one ecological unit.
White Elephant promotes conservation and aims to establish ecotourism as the most viable sustainable land use. White Elephant also hopes to provide a realization amongst communities that conserving the wilderness in co-existence with man (and his needs) will ultimately prove to be the best 'farming' option in northeast Zululand.
