The KZN-based Wilderness Action Group is a voluntary NGO, formed in 1983 after the 3rd World Wilderness Congress in Scotland as a Section 21 (not-for-gain) Company. Membership Membership is by invitation to anyone deeply concerned and committed to furthering wilderness in Southern Africa. Members include people with professional experience of wilderness and biodiversity conservation, including ecological and environmental sciences, law, planning, management and training.
Vision To foster enduring wilderness for its value to present and future generations. Activities WAG promotes the conservation, protection and management of wilderness through: Promoting the wilderness concept in an African context by recognising indigenous knowledge and preserving natural & cultural heritage; Providing professional & technical advice & expertise; Promoting the development of appropriate legislation & policy; Offering professional training and awareness seminars; Monitoring & promoting the designation of wilderness areas; Publishing material & acting in partnerships and networks with similar objectives.
