Wanasanaa Self Help Group was started in the year 2000, it is located in the western part of the country near Lake Victoria region in Gucha District in a small town known as Tabaka famously known for its stone carving activities. Apart from the soapstone activities, they also do farming. Wanasanaa means artists, who came together with an aim of making products from the rock soapstone which is found within the locality. The group consists of 20 members who are both men and women. They decided to form the group of artists to try and make use as well as expose talent, they decided to create employment for themselves by getting involved in the production of beautiful artifacts, and with high hopes that, at the end of the day they would have earned a living and able to meet the basic needs of their families. Wanasanaa Mission statement is to be equal among members and serve the community, with high quality products and fair prices. Among their main objectives is to improve the standards of living and social welfare of members by coordinating their economic and social activities. Also to be at all times prepared and ready to meet business deadlines.
